[about us]

Let me fill you in on a few details about our family.

I am Corey.

I'm 24 years old and have lived in Michigan my whole life [until recently - but we'll get to that later].  I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Human Biology.  I am a sports fanatic.  I love reading, museums, and history.  I feel most at home when I'm in the water.  I would rather be around animals than people [but I do have a handful of friends that I could not live without].  I wish the seasons just constantly cycled through fall and winter [apple orchards + Christmas + snow = ].  I spend way more time on the internet than anyone should.  As such, I'll be the one writing the blog.

This is Igor.

He is the Boyfriend.  He moved to Michigan from Russia as a teenager.  Later, he joined the Army and lived mostly in Washington, D.C. before returning to Michigan to finish his Biology degree and have the immense pleasure of meeting me.  He shares my love of sports, video games, and all-day trips to zoos.  He's a complete meathead, and his committed to the gym fits perfectly with my need to be completely alone for a couple hours each day.  He is quick-witted, but still can't resist making at least one dumb pun a day.  Most importantly, he always leans down to take pictures with me.  That's the kind of guy that's worth marrying.

We have been together 2 years.  Igor constitutes the other half of the "us" and "we" I'll often use when writing.

Earlier this year, Igor and I made the decision to leave our beloved Michigan to attend medical school at St. George's University in Grenada.

[Igor was an Occupational Therapist in the Army.  He plans to go into Orthopedics -- specifically, hand surgery.  He is very gifted at working with hands (and, remarkably, doesn't find them boring).]

[I have always wanted to do surgery, but it's far too early for me to pick which specific field of surgery I will love most.]

We were both excited for the new adventure -- and a little apprehensive about everything we would be leaving behind.  We moved in August, and at first, we absolutely loved our new home.

After a couple months, however, homesickness set in.  We ached for the gorgeous fall weather, convenience of life, and fun activities that used to fill our weekends.

Clockwise from top left: picking pumpkins at Erwin Orchards, snow battle, Lions game, skiing in Boyne, the day of The Game (Go Green!), Detroit Zoo, Eminem concert, cutting our own Christmas tree

We both considered getting a pet, but decided to wait until next semester [January] when our two cats would be moving to Grenada with us.  [Due to the airline we used, we weren't able to take them this semester, which has been heartbreaking for us.]  We agreed that we would look into getting a dog at that time.

But Reed had other plans.  He came into our lives a bit earlier than we expected -- and we couldn't be happier about it.

Reed completes our family, and we hope you enjoy following his journey as much as we enjoy living it.
